The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is the global advertising and communications industry's most important annual gathering, held in June at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes. A significant proportion of the senior executives, agency heads, and brand directors attending Lions maintain their accommodation in Monaco rather than Cannes — both for the privacy and because Monaco's hotel stock is of a qualitatively different standard from that available in Cannes at comparable price points during the festival week. The forty-five-minute private transfer between Monaco and Cannes becomes, during Lions week, one of our most requested routes.
Why Monaco Principals Choose to Stay in Monaco for Lions
The Cannes hotel stock at the higher end — the Carlton, the Martinez, the Majestic — is excellent but fully committed at Lions prices that can reach eight to ten times the off-season rate. Monaco's Hotel de Paris and Hermitage, by contrast, are at their relative seasonal low in June and offer discretion, service, and a physical address that communicates a specific level to industry peers. The forty-five-minute transfer is, for this cohort, not a burden but a signal.
For principals who are hosting dinners, private screenings, or brand events during Lions week, Monaco provides access to the Louis XV, the Yacht Club terrace, and Port Hercule's yacht facilities — contexts for business entertainment that Cannes cannot replicate regardless of budget.
The Daily Transfer Programme — Monaco to Cannes
The standard Lions week transfer programme operates as follows: morning departure from Monaco between seven-thirty and nine, arriving at the Palais des Festivals by nine or by the Grand Auditorium's door for the first session; midday return to Monaco for lunch or a hotel meeting; afternoon return to Cannes for the second session block; and evening return to Monaco for dinner.
This four-leg daily structure is pre-scheduled on Sunday evening before Lions opens on Monday. We confirm the first-day timing, build in thirty-minute contingency windows between legs, and adjust the schedule daily based on the principal's programme changes. The driver is on-call from seven-thirty AM to midnight throughout Lions week.
The Palais des Festivals — Drop-Off and VIP Access
The Palais des Festivals et des Congres is located at the western end of the Croisette, where the Boulevard de la Croisette meets the port. The VIP and delegate drop-off is on the Croisette side, adjacent to the Palais's main entrance. During Lions, the drop-off zone is managed by the festival's security operation; delegates with Gold Lions passes use a separate entrance on the port side of the building.
For principals with back-to-back sessions at different venues within the festival zone — the Palais, the Marriott beach, and the various brand-hosted spaces along the Croisette — we provide a staged vehicle service that positions the car at each venue exit point five minutes before the session ends.
Evening Events and Private Dinners
Lions evenings are structured around the award ceremonies at the Palais — Grand Prix announcements typically run from seven to nine in the evening — followed by brand-hosted beach parties, private dinners on yachts, and the informal continuation at the Martinez bar. For principals whose evening programme concludes at the Palais, the return transfer to Monaco can be scheduled immediately after the ceremony. For those continuing to a private yacht or a beach event, we hold the vehicle at the port.
For principals who are hosting a private dinner in Monaco for Lions contacts — using the Louis XV or a private villa for a ten to twenty person dinner — we manage the transfer of guests from Cannes to Monaco and the return transfer at the end of the evening, ensuring the principal does not need to coordinate transport for their guests independently.
Nice Airport and Cross-Festival Connections
Lions week arrivals at Nice Airport peak on the Saturday and Sunday before the festival opens. For principals flying in from London, New York, or the Gulf, we provide the Nice Airport to Monaco transfer on the arrival day and the Monaco to Cannes transfer from Monday. All legs are confirmed as a single programme with one point of contact.
For principals attending both Lions (Cannes) and the Cannes Film Festival (also Cannes, two weeks earlier in May), we provide the same corridor service for both events, giving the client a continuous driver who knows the Monaco-Cannes route, the Palais access protocol, and the principal's specific preferences.
