Genova Cristoforo Colombo International Airport is the most underutilised gateway to Monaco and the western Côte d'Azur — a fact known to the private aviation community but largely ignored by commercial travellers. With a drive time of approximately 1 hour 45 minutes on the A10 autostrada, and significantly less congestion than the Nice Côte d'Azur approach on peak summer days, Genova deserves serious consideration as an arrival and departure point for Principality-based clients. FFGR Monaco operates the full Genova–Monaco route with 24-hour availability and flight-tracking included as standard.
Why Choose Genova Over Nice
Nice Côte d'Azur is the obvious first choice for Monaco arrivals — but it becomes problematic during the Grand Prix week in May, the Cannes Film Festival fortnight, the Monaco Yacht Show in September, and throughout the peak July–August summer season when the A8 eastbound from Nice can add 45 to 90 minutes to what should be a 25-minute transfer. Genova, by contrast, feeds into the A10 westbound with reliable travel times throughout the year.
For private jet operators, Genova also offers an FBO with significantly lower handling fees than Nice and shorter taxi times. Clients who have flexibility on arrival airport and are travelling to Monaco from northern Italy, Germany, or Switzerland often find Genova the better operational choice even before traffic considerations.
The Transfer Route: GOA to Monaco
From Genova airport the routing follows the ring road west to the A10 autostrada, which runs along the Ligurian coast through Savona, Imperia, and Ventimiglia before crossing into France toward Monaco. The total distance is approximately 170 kilometres. Under standard conditions the drive takes 1h40 to 1h50.
FFGR drivers track all flights in real time and adjust departure from Monaco for the pick-up accordingly. For passengers arriving on private jets, our driver coordinates with the FBO ground handler and meets clients airside or at the FBO lounge depending on operator preference. No client should wait at the vehicle — the vehicle waits for the client.
Fleet for Long-Distance Transfers
A nearly two-hour transfer warrants a vehicle equipped for genuine comfort rather than urban point-to-point use. Our standard Genova transfer vehicle is the Mercedes-Maybach S680 or the BMW 760i xDrive — both with rear-seat massage, refrigerated champagne or still water, and a noise-dampened cabin appropriate for calls or rest. The Range Rover SV is available as an alternative for clients who prefer elevated seating.
For groups of five to eight arriving together, our Mercedes V-Class Exclusive provides full business-class configurations with individual reading lights, fold-out tables, and separate temperature zones. Luggage capacity is unlimited — we add a support vehicle when necessary.
Departures: Monaco to Genova
Outbound transfers follow the same route in reverse. We recommend a departure buffer of 2h15 before scheduled departure for commercial flights and 1h00 for private aviation. FFGR provides a precise departure time recommendation at booking based on the flight schedule, day of week, and season.
We also offer a hybrid service: Genova by car, then onward by train from Genova Brignole or Piazza Principe for clients connecting to Turin, Milan, or the high-speed Frecciarossa network toward Rome or Florence.
